How to Tie a Woven Wrap: Step-by-Step Video Tutorial (FWCC)
Want to learn how to tie a woven baby wrap safely, snugly, and ergonomically? The Front Wrap Cross Carry (FWCC) is the most versatile foundational carry for every parent — suitable from day one with your newborn right through toddlerhood.
Step-by-Step Guide: Front Wrap Cross Carry (FWCC)
- Find the middle marker: Locate the middle marker label of your woven wrap and place it flat against the center of your chest. Bring both wrap tails horizontally under your arms behind your back.
- Cross behind your back: Cross the two fabric passes flat across your back (keeping them untwisted) and bring each tail up over the opposite shoulder to the front, creating a horizontal pocket across your chest.
- Seat your baby in the pocket: Hold your baby high against your shoulder and gently guide their legs down through the horizontal chest pass. Spread the fabric smoothly from knee-pit to knee-pit so your baby's bottom settles deeply into the ergonomic M-position (knees higher than bottom).
- Tighten strand by strand: Gather the wrap passes at your shoulders and tighten strand by strand (top rail, middle section, bottom rail) to remove all slack while supporting your baby's naturally rounded spine.
- Cross & tie off: Cross the tightened passes under your baby's bottom, guide the tails back under your baby's legs to your back or waist, and secure with a firm double knot.
Ergonomic Babywearing Safety Checklist
- Close enough to kiss: Position your baby high enough on your chest to kiss the top of their head effortlessly.
- Clear airways: Ensure your baby's face remains visible at all times, with nose and mouth clear and chin lifted off the chest.
- M-position & neck support: Support knee-to-knee and fold the top rail neatly at ear-lobe height to create gentle neck support for newborns.
